A 2.5 to 3 hour, 7.5 km return walk from Kahibah Memorial Park through the forest, past waterfalls and along the beach in Glenrock State Conservation Area.


  • Explore how the underlying geology has shaped the landscape in Glenrock – from rainforest gullies, to spotted gum forests and coastal heath.

  • Escape to nature from everyday life amongst cascades and waterfalls, forests, beaches and beautiful views.

  • Experience the different plant communities and the birds and animals that thrive there, the use of resources by Aboriginals and Europeans, and conservation issues.

The meeting point for the Glenrock Discovery Tour is at Kahibah Memorial Park, Hexham Street Kahibah. The tour returns to Kahibah Memorial Park. Kahibah village includes a coffee shop, bakery, take-away and mini-mart.


  • Kahibah is a 15 minute drive southwest of the Newcastle CBD. Parking is free and plentiful at the start / finish point on Frith Street, Kahibah.

  • Kahibah is a short bike ride from the Fernleigh Track.

  • Kahibah Memorial Park is serviced regularly by bus route 22 from Newcastle Interchange to Charlestown.  Use stop ID 229073 if Charlestown-bound, and use stop ID 229070 if Newcastle-bound.

The tour is a moderate walk on fire trails and gravel tracks with loose surface, some short steep inclines / declines, a short beach section, creek crossings and uneven steps. Unfortunately, this walk is not accessible to prams, strollers and people with mobility issues. This walk is not suitable for children under 14 years of age. 


Water taps and toilets are located at the start and finish of the walk at Kahibah Memorial Park – but please note there are no water taps or toilet facilities along the walk. Please bring sufficient water for the conditions.
